On Thursday the 6th of October the Blessington Lakes’ version of the Ryder Cup vs Solheim Cup (i.e. the men vs the women) took place.
On one hand we had the men determined to retain last year’s title, while on the other the women were resolute in their belief that they could dethrone the men.
This was originally organised as a social event to be enjoyed by all, but the undercurrents of competitive rivalry bubbled up on every tee box and green to the extent that concentration and silence reigned over the nine holes of the Blessington Lakes for the two hour event. Players held their breath while the scores were counted. To their amazed delight this year the ladies came out victorious, by the smallest of margins to win the coveted title, but more importantly the prosecco!
Many thanks to the Team Captains; Sally Callaghan, Mary Cullen, Neil Larrigan and Damien Adderley, for organising and leading their teams into battle.
Afterwards the players were treated to Michelin Star food and refreshments organised by Daire Hanrahan and Terry Allen, with the help of Rita Malone. We would like to extend our grateful appreciation to these two men who were also the organisers of this year’s event.
Thanks to Dympna Darby the ladies’ stylist and to John Curry for providing local refreshments also Helen Farrell for her baking skills. Thanks to Sarah Mullaly for her photography and videos.
September 2023 will be the decider and there will be such a desire to win that we fear for life and limb.
Next year will be organized by Eadaoín Ní Chleirigh and Sinead Nolan so put that event in your diaries and keep your eyes peeled for further information.
