We had an incredible day on Sunday hosted by an incredible person, our club president Dympna Darby. Dympna has put a huge amount of effort in to the club and gave us all a really enjoyable day to remember. Preparations for the Presidents Prize have been ongoing for a number of weeks and it was clear to see as the course was in excellent condition. On behalf of the committee and members I’d like to thank our greens keeper Tom Kavanagh, Tom is very talented and always pulls out all the stops. Assisting Tom, were the Course Committee and members, who take great pride in the course and are a huge help getting the course into such good condition. The clubhouse committee as always are doing excellent work, we all enjoyed some lovely food after the golf.
Lady Presidents Prize
The Lady Presidents Prize was won by Mary Magee with an impressive 37 points, giving Mary a two shot victory over Angela Seery in second place with 35 points. Mary reversed the captains prize result where Angela got the better of her. Rita Malone pipped Kitty Feely for third place on the back 9.
Gents Presidents Prize
The Gents Presidents Prize began with a morning qualifier, which was very competitive. Only 4 shots separated the top 16
The top 16 returned in the afternoon to do battle in a nine hole play off. It looked as though Eddie Kelly, in the leading group had done enough with 17 points as his playing partners couldn’t keep with the pace. A surprise came from the chasing pack, Conor Steed with 19 points, giving him a total of 52 points, winning on the last 9. It was great to see Conor winning, it clearly meant a lot to him. Conor has put in a huge amount of work to his golf and has been steadily improving, great to see all his efforts being rewarded.
