Mixed Matchplay Final **RESULT**

Ruth and Tony returned victorious after 18 holes in all mixtures of weather yesterday evening – beating Irene and Paul on the final hole. The winners commanded an early lead and were 3 up after 7 holes…but Irene and Paul were having none of it, and gradually clawed it back to All Square on the 12th. Poor Tony’s aging bones starting giving him trouble, but a couple of painkillers and an ice pack, he bounced back (I think he’d have to brought off the course on a stretcher before he would concede anyway)….so he and Ruth fought off their dogged opposition, and sank the winning putt on 18th hole to take the title. Well done and congratulations…… where’s those scissors?!

29/10/22: “Mixed Matchplay Final Now Underway” The 2022 Mixed Matchplay Final is currently underway – with 2 opposing finalists coming from the same house today….Irene Downey is playing with Paul Flynn but is playing against her daughter Ruth, who is partnered with Tony McGinley. They were all smiling and laughing before heading off but it’ll be interesting to see who will still be smiling after their 18 hole match today.

Irene is showing great form with recent wins in the Ladies Matchplay and taking the spoils at the recent away outing in Faithlegg – but more importantly, she has a lot of matchplay experience under her belt. Paul Flynn regularly features in club competitions and is as steady as a rock.

But the opposition are a force to be reckoned with too, with Tony McGinley having years and years of golfing experience (yes, he’s that old) and will lend helpful advice to Ruth. Ruth is a relative newbie to regular golf but is showing great potential, with her super long drives and sweet iron shots – we foresee Ruth’s handicap being halved by next year.

Watch this space for the result….
