Mens Captains Prize Report

Last Saturday saw the 2023 Capts Prize qualifiers take to the fairways to do battle for what is traditionally seen as a golf clubs most prestigious prize. Captain Christy was out early planting the pins in positions to test. The pin on the fifth hole certainly did test the patience of competitors. The course was in superb condition thanks to the work Tom and a number of volunteers did all week. In the end we had a tie with Joe O Toole and Darach Nugent tying on 148. This necessitated a sudden death play off and with the wind rising it was going to tough. Both contenders had good 5’s on the first 2 holes. It was on the 3rd hole where the decisive blow was delivered when Joe hit a superb hybrid close to a tight front right pin to finally shake off Darach. Great battling gentlemen. James Benson claimed 3rd over a shot shy of making it a 3 man playoff. On the day we had only 1 birdie returned by Brendan Flynn- who else folks. Jamie Tutty won the longest Drive. Cat 1 was won by Brendan Flynn, Pat Reid claimed Cat 2 honours with Ken Williams taking Cat 3. Diarmuid McCarthy returned the best Gross with Mark Williams being closest to the Pin. Many thanks to the clubhouse staff for making the day run so smoothly and of course to Our very own Master Chef Daire Hanrahan who provided that lovely Nosebag.

This weekend the club competitions are open to visitors and are stand alone Singles Stableford on each day book early book often.
