The Committee has laid down the following conditions under which club competitions are to be played. These conditions have been approved by the Committee Club. 1)

1. Rules of Golf

1.1 All competitions will be run in accordance with the R & A Rules of Golf and Club Byelaws. Local rules as made and published on the scorecard or board shall apply to all.

2. Eligibility to Play

2.1 Policy for Play and Pay Members on a separate document.
2.2 All Members playing in Club competitions must be a member of Blessington Lakes Golf Club, hold a current Golf Ireland Handicap Index and have paid their annual subscription or are in a paying arrangement with the club.
2.3 Junior and Young Adult Members with a Golf Ireland Handicap Index can enter Club Competitions.
2.4 To be eligible to win the Captains’ Prize and the President’s Prize, a player must be a full member of Blessington Lakes Golf Club and have returned scores in three Counting 18 Hole Singles Competitions, or six 9 Hole Counting Competitions or cards in Counting Competitions that amount to a total of 54 Holes. These competitions must have been played in Blessington Lakes Golf Club.

3. Method of Entry

3.1 Entry to a competition is by electronic timesheet, via the BRS App, or through the Clubhouse.
3.2 On the day of the competition, before commencement of play, you enter the competition via the BRS app or through the Clubhouse. Make sure to select the 18 Hole or 9 Hole Competition. (In the event of a malfunction with the computer all entries will be valid). If you are on the timesheet outside of the designated Competition time, you must put your entry fee in an envelope and enter the Competition as above. 18 Hole competitors MUST use lines on the timesheet assigned for the relevant 18 Hole competitions and 9 Hole competitors MUST use lines on the timesheet assigned for the relevant 9 Hole competition only.

4. Format of Competition:

4.1 The format of each competition will be displayed on the top of the electronic timesheet.
5. Times of Starting and Groups:
5.1 Players MUST start at the time registered on the electronic Time Sheet. Failure to start on time may lead to:
5.2 stroke penalty at the first hole in stroke play
5.3 Loss of 1st hole in Matchplay or Disqualification – Rule of Golf 5-3a.
5.4 If the course is closed for part of the day, the Time Sheet Stands.
5.5 Members who are unable to play at the Tee Times entered in computer due to course closure may change to other times on the Time Sheet.
5.6 In the case of inclement weather, it is permissible to amend tee times.

6. Starting Places:

6.1 Players must start on the First Tee unless otherwise stated or as displayed by the greenkeeper.

7. Teeing Grounds to be used:

7.1 Members will play off the Red Tees, White Tees and Blue Tees.

8. Prize Structures:

8.1 Prizes will be awarded according to the number of entries at the discretion of the Committee or Sponsors
N.B. One person playing constitutes a competition for Medal and Handicap Purposes.

9. Decisions of Ties and Halved Matches: (Handicapping Rules & Allowances)

9.1 In accordance with the Rules of Golf, ties shall be resolved by count-back.
9.2 Stroke Play: • In all 18 and 9Hole Competitions, ties shall be decided by matching cards.
• The Winner is determined based on the best score on the last 9 Holes, last 6 Holes, last 3 Holes, and finally last Hole.
• If there is still a tie then the last 6 holes, three holes and final hole of the first nine holes. If the round is less than 18 holes, winners are decided by the scores on the course Back 9, then if equal by the scores on the course Front 9.

10. Match Play

• A match that ends all square should be played off hole by hole until one side wins a hole.
• The play-off should start on the hole where the match began.
• In a handicap match, handicap strokes should be allowed as in the stipulated round.

11. Suspension of play:

11.1 The Club Committee, General Manager, Club Professional and Green Keeper have the Authority to suspend play.
11.2 When Play is suspended due to a dangerous situation, play must be discontinued immediately.
11.3 Players may mark the position of their ball pending possible re-commencing of play.
11.4 The signal for suspending play due to a dangerous situation will be a prolonged note of a siren.
11.5 Please refer to Club policy.

12. Transportation:

12.1 Use of buggies is permitted, but only when buggies are allowed on the course. No Medical Certificate is required.

13. Scorecard:

13.1 The Committee requests that the following is recorded on the scorecard:
⦁ Player’s name.
⦁ Date & Name of Competition.
⦁ Handicap Index, Course Handicap, & Playing Handicap must be recorded on the card.
⦁ The marker must verify the player’s score.
⦁ Players are requested to total the scores/ Stableford points.
⦁ 9 Hole competitors MUST ensure that their 18 Hole/Full handicap index is recorded on the scorecard.

14. Local Rules:

14.1 Players are requested to check the notice board for Temporary Local Rules that may be in place in addition to the local rules printed on the Scorecard.

15. Local Rule re Alternate Day Golf

When players have a choice between Main Day and Alternate Day weekly Competition, in terms of Rule 5.2b of the Rules of Golf, any player who elects to play on the second day of the competition is permitted to play on the competition course on the first day of the said competition without being deemed to have practised the course. This Local Rule does not apply to the Captains and President’s Prize Competition. For these Competitions, if you are playing the competition on the second day, you may NOT play on the course on the first day of the Competition.

16. Junior Members Competition Playing Rights with WHS and BRS Booking Rights:

Junior Members are eligible:
16.1 To compete in all weekly Competitions, including 9 Hole Competitions.
16.2 To win all Open Competitions and all Competitions except 1st prize in the Captains’ Prize and President’s Prize.
16.3 To play Alternate Day golf on Saturdays.
16.4 To compete in Open Competitions.
16.5 To play for Blessington Lakes GC in all inter-club Competitions.

It is at the discretion of the Club Committee to amend these Terms of Competition as deemed necessary.

The decision of the Club Committee is final.

The club has a number of buggies which may be booked, in advance, by calling 045-867146 or email at info@blessingtonlakesgolfclub.com. Any booking is subject to restrictions that may be imposed owing to the condition of the course at any point in time. No guarantee can be given that a buggy will be available.

Any person who operates a ride-on buggy on the golf course is deemed by doing so, to have the necessary knowledge, training and skill to safely operate this vehicle and be fully accountable for their actions.

The Club reserves the right to refuse permission to use a golf buggy. In exceptional weather conditions, the Head Greenkeeper or the Management Committee may determine that unrestricted use of buggies will, or may be likely to, cause significant damage to the course. In these circumstances, buggy restrictions will apply.

For general play, competitions and non-competition play a golf buggy shall only be used by members, guests and visitors authorised to do so.

BLGC Golf Club Golf Buggy Safety Policy

The topography of certain areas of the course is such that caution must be shown by the user of a Golf Buggy.

No person under the age of eighteen(18) years is permitted to operate a buggy.
Golf buggies must be operated with the utmost courtesy to care.

Pedestrians must be afforded the right of way at all times.

Golf buggies should not be driven into the ravine on 2nd and 9th holes
Areas forbidden to golf buggies may be cordoned off and must be avoided at all times.

Golf buggies must be parked in such a manner that they do not impede or interfere with the pedestrians or vehicles and must not be parked in car parking spaces.

Security of ignition keys for the period of booking is the person booking.
Golf buggies shall only be used between dusk and dawn.

The Management Committee has the authority to immediately suspend or prohibit any individual from using or being carried in a golf buggy. 

Buggy Safe Working Practice

Prior to Use
Familiarise yourself with:
Ignition switch
Accelerator.
Footbrake.
Parking brake

During Use
Always remain seated and hold on while the vehicle is in motion.
Hands, feet and head must be kept inside while the vehicle is in motion.
Golf buggies must not be driven in cordoned off areas.
The vehicle must be used to progress the game and must not be driven up and down excessively, e.g. when looking for golf balls.
The vehicle must not be used on tees, greens, or the slopes and areas leading up to the tee and green.
The vehicle must not be driven into any deep rough on the course.
Check the area behind the vehicle before reversing.
Drive the vehicle only as fast as the terrain and safety considerations allow.
To avoid tipping over, drive the buggy straight up and down severe slopes.
All turns must be executed at reduced speeds.
Avoid sudden stops or changes of direction that may result in loss of control.
Be extra careful when the course is wet and muddy.

After Use
Park the buggy safely, turn the operating key to the off position, remove the key and engage the parking brake.
Ensure that all personal items and rubbish is removed.
Return key to clubhouse.
