Local Transition Year Students Visit the Course

Blessington  Lakes Golf Club completed a very successful programme with Blessington Community College Transition Year Students 2021/2022 on  Monday 23rd May  in conjunction with Golf Ireland.

A total of 50 students arrived to the club on Monday for our four ball scramble, most of whom had attended the club for lessons with Pro Golfer Tom O’Neill as part of the TY programme.

A crew of 24 accompanied by Principal Kieran Burke arrived for the first session at 9.30 am all full of enthusiasm.

With the help of club members each team of four were assigned to a member who guided and advised them while playing a three hole scramble some of whom had never been on a golf course before. The competition was mighty and each and everyone of them did their best for their own team.

After an hour or so on the course the students returned to the club house where they were treated to refreshments, scores were counted and prizes awarded, all students received a certificate and when asked for a show of hands as to whom would like to play golf the response was amazing.

A big thank you to our Lady President Helen, Lady Captain Aisling, Club Members, Michael Nolan, Eilish Lawler, Carmel Haughton  and Catherine Behan and to Mags Owens for providing the refreshments also to our Clubhouse Manager Julie.

Round two took place at 12.30 when 26 eager students arrived full of the joys and looking forward to getting out on the course accompanied by Mr Dowling an avid golfer too.

Again each team was sent out in groups of four with a club member a big thank you to Diarmuid, Michelle,

Helen, Aisling, Catherine with a special mention to new members and TY students Finn Behan and Jack Hardy who took out teams and led by example, also to Grainne for all her help in the Clubhouse.

Again prizes were awarded and each student received a certificate, the atmosphere was great as the students compared teams, drives and pars and who was the next Shane Lowry and Leona Maguire.

Helen and I set out to promote our Club, to make it a welcome place for young people and families to involve our community with the aim of setting up a Junior Club and in the near future a Juvenile Club and by all accounts and feedback we are on the right road.

Once again we want to thank everyone for your support and encouragement for this venture and we are looking forward to TY’s March /April 2023.
