For the first time in the club’s history our Junior Cup Team progressed through today’s regional strokeplay qualifier against the odds to set up a Semi Final encounter with Newlands GC next Sunday at Castlewarden. Niall O’Connor was first out returning a score of 76 followed by a pair of 85’s from Conor Fallon and Paul Culligan before our last two players of Breandan Flynn and Diarmuid McCarthy returned 75 and 80. With the best 4 cards to count we finished 3rd overall out of the 14 clubs competing. A really great achievement by our small club. To be able to compete at this level is a testament to the players for putting in their time to practice over the past couple of weeks and also a special mention for Joey “Ranieri” Donohue for his guidance and team talks along the way. Roll on next Sunday where we hope to push on from today’s performance. We would appeal to our members to get out and support the lads next Sunday, you can be sure Newlands will have a huge support spurring them on so let’s all get behind the team and help them along the way.
