The Farrell’s Keep It In The Family

While the frost last week was forecast the golfers of Blessington Lakes were caught off guard this Sunday by the unexpected white sheen that greeted them as they awoke. It led to a delay as the early starters willed the sun to appear over the horizon. It quickly burned off the frost to leave ideal playing conditions for an enthusiastic bunch of golfers looking for their weekly fix. Scotch foursomes is a format we rarely play and the complexity of the the handicapping for a fourteen hole competition meant the results were officially audited before being declared.
The father and son combination of Sean and Glen Farrell have both been in the frame recently and as a combination they proved to be untouchable. A front nine of 38 shots, despite a double bogey on the ninth, set the pair up for an astonishing 25 points which beat half the fields total for fourteen holes. A steady final five holes brought them home with a total of 35 points. Enjoy the handicap Glen, it won’t last much longer.
They certainly didn’t have things their own way. Remarkably another handicap combination of eight and twenty two were also on fire. The long hitting Conor Fallon and the steady Noel Searson were also showing their quality. A five over par round brought them home in thirty four points, four clear of third place.
Next week we are playing a similar format with a two person scramble. Entries are also filling quickly for our Spring League fourball matchplay competition. If you wish the play in this competition you need to get your name on the timesheet immediately.
