Last Thursday evening saw Eddie Ingrams and Aisling O Connor’s Cullen cup team stage a remarkable comeback to win against Kilmashogue G C. The victory was remarkable in that we won all our 3 away games to win 3 2. So with the home matches finishing a little earlier things looked somewhat grim. But throughout the evening news kept filtering back from the Dublin Foothills that all 3 matches there were very close. So as Kilmashogue took 2 valuable away points of their own it was gather around the Whats app time, wow how things have changed and as the 3 matches ambled along towards the closing holes overlooking Ath Cliath it seemed we were still in hunt in all 3 matches. After a tight match Brendan Flynn and Dymphna Darby closed their game out on 18 to bring us back within a point of Kilmashogue. Lady Captain and Dermot Byrne finished their 18 holes all square so back down the 1st they had to go and some 10 minutes later news filtered back to the lakes that they had won their 1st tie hole to level the match. Wow, so with Darkness closing in and South Dublin Co Council beginning to take in the roads for the night Diarmuid Mc Carthy and Helen Farrell appeared out of the dusky mountain backdrop playing the 18th hole. They had their game face on and with good reason as it turned out as they then proceeded to close out the match on the last hole of what was a….. whats the name of that boat they built up North, oh yes the Titanic, what was a Titanic struggle. Very rare to win 3 away in interclub folks so well done to all. Just to say what a pleasure it was to play Kilmashogue you guys were so welcoming and friendly and what a course you have. Us nine holers have to stick together. The Blessed 9 are on their travels again for the next round with us having 3 matches away to Castlecomer GC, Overnight in Kilkenny Boss??
