Cream rises to the top in Presidents

Last Saturday’s presidents prize certainly proved a tough test for all concerned. Very strong winds amplified the already considerable distances from the blue medal tees to green. On such occasions one should always look to the tried and tested competitors among us in trying to nominate a winner and so it proved on the day with the lowest marked golfer in our club deservedly coming out top. Niall O’Connor (5) had 55 pts over the 27 holes to take top spot from Pat Brady (11) who finished runner up with 51 pts on his cards. The leading gross prize on the day went to Brendan Flynn (7) with 38 pts. Cat 1 was won by Richard Kelly with 50 pts, Cat 2 by Liam Crosbie also on a mark of 50 pts, Cat 3 was secured by Tom McGrath with 48 pts. Noel Searson was our leading qualifier with 34 pts. Best 9 holes went to Paul O Farrell, Dave Callaghan and Jamie Tutty were 1st and 2nd respectively in the shootout with Richard Kelly snr topping the veterans category with a return of 43 pts. The shotgun start seemed to work well giving people a chance to eat and chat together, very important don’t you know. The Ruby Murray and Chilli Donnycarney went down a treat wiping the gastronomical memory banks from last years offering. Well done again Mr O Connor, can anyone stop him retaining the POY…… absolutely, i heard Podger Harrington is giving up his pro status and joining the Blessed Nine, in on a Buddy deal to boot.
