Blessington Lakes Golf Club

25 Years 1998 to 2023

Captain’s New Year Message (Niall O’Connor)

Glasson2Happy New Year to everyone! I am delighted and honoured to hold the position of Captain at Blessington Lakes Golf Club. I have been a member of this fine club since I have been 12 years old, so in theory I have been a member here over half my life! This would not have happened had it not been for my dad Liam. He introduced me to the game and Blessington Lakes (then Boystown) at a very young age and to him I am very thankful. It is actually quite fitting that I am writing this blog on the date of his 9th anniversary. I am sure he is very proud looking down on me now! I have also been honoured to serve on the last 3 committees here, two as Honorary Secretary and of course Vice Captain Last year.

To be Captain of a golf club at age 25 is probably somewhat uncommon or even unheard of but it represents what our club is all about. We are a progressive club with a youthful and vibrant committee and membership. We believe that everyone should be included in all aspects of the club. It is this progressive attitude that will help us grow our club into the future. We are all about fresh ideas and thinking differently.

2012 has an air of great promise about it…… As most of you know we have been working extremely hard behind the scenes on an aggressive marketing campaign and I am delighted to report that we are well on track and currently slightly ahead of our targets so far.

Internet traffic is up and increasing all the time and the enquiries are coming in by the dozen. At last Blessington Lakes is being recognised for it’s great value and is becoming known as the “affordable place to play golf!”. We are firmly cementing our place on the golfing map. This has not happened on it’s own so I would like to thank the committee and the McEvoy family for getting fully behind the marketing plan.

The membership renewals will be posted to every member in the coming days so I would also like to remind all our members again of the early payment incentive and buddy deal incentive, more on the details on the bonus incentive can be seen here

A lot of work has been done so far but this does not mean we will be slowing down. We now have momentum behind us and are going to continue to drive forward. Please remember that this is YOUR club so please help us on our mission by being ambassadors for our club, spread the word about the great golf, value for money and friendly atmosphere that we have to offer at Blessington Lakes Golf Club.

I look forward to seeing you out enjoying our course during the season

Niall O’Connor
