Joe Donohoe (8) blitzed his way round our Blessed links in a 1 over 73 which equated to 43 stableford points. Joe has now has a lead of 12 points in the Spring League over Mark Williams in 2nd. Stephen Culligan (10) also scooted around sub 80, in 77 strokes to be precise or 41 pts Stephen surely thought he had done enough to win. It seems that despite Joe’s 2 shots domestic cut he still pipped Stephen on the back 9, will confirm tomorrow. Despite the course being back to the Normal tee’s and the cold dense air the field still managed to squeeze 22 birds out of the old lady over the 2 days. The breeze also seemed to be the opposite of the prevailing wind and this meant that the 4th and 9th holes were index’s 1 and 2 respectively. Joe is now on 164 pts and looking to drop a score that the rest of us are only dreaming of (39 pts). Mark although 12 pts back is looking to drop a 31…….Mark really needs to bang a 40 pointer on the table to keep Joe honest. In 3rd spot comes Cormac Noone (11) on 148 and he needs to bang the same table with something similar just to keep Mark honest. Michael Cullen (15) is in 4th spot on 146 pts. Michael has started the season with a barrage of birdies and is well capable of dumping his lowest counting card so far of 33pts. Michael could still conceivably catch Mark in 2nd although it really does look like Joe has the trophy wrapped up at this stage, Do not right off 5th place man Sean Farrell (6) and with a 33 still counting in his total…. a 40 pointer in the final weeks could providing of course that all above make a town halls of it move him into collecting some nice Player of The year points. Categorize prizes still all to play for gents.
