Well done to the ladies of Blessington Lakes who won the AA Insurance all Ireland Minor Cup last Friday.
Team consisted of Marie Clarke, Nolene Mullen, Rita Malone, Mary Fitzpatrick, Suzanne Hegarty, Brid Shirran and Pam Harrington.
This competition started way back at the beginning of April, but team manager, Anne Kelly, maintains that it actually started in February when she organised our new club jumpers – she says that she knew back then that she had the makings of a winning team.
They met and overcame old rivals Carlow and also other prestigious clubs such and Mullingar and Mount Wolesley along the way.
Following a convincing victory over Gowran Park at the end of August in Mountrath they took the title of District Champions.
Last Wednesday they beat a fiesty team from Castletroy in the national quarter finals and progressed with much gusto to the semi finals, where they had a tighter fight over Athenry. Once again they emerged victorious. And on to the final on Friday which they took with so much style. Nobody was going to beat our team this day, and they all played superb golf as can be seen by the scoreboard.
The team would like to thank everyone who has supported them along the way – caddies, and supporters, whether you were with us in body or in mind. But most of all we want to say a huge thank you to Anne, for her relentless time spent, effort and encouragement.
