Last weekend saw our annual Scr Cups taking place. This is always a popular event and this year was no different with large fields competing notably in the Inter and Minor categories. The Blessington Lakes Junior Scr cup was one by very popular Ex Member Alan Doolin (7) with a 79 Gross. Alan now representing Bainroe made his 2nd visit within the last few weeks a very rewarding exercise. Alan over came a tough visit to the 2nd hole on the back nine by storming back with 2 late birdies to take the trophy on a count back from Local Ledgend Niall O Connor (5) indeed Niall nearly had the trophy ready for the mantle-piece only being undone by a 6 on the last hole. That last hole, seriously its like playing off the back of an aircraft carrier. Niall also had a 79, so only 2 players over the weekend broke 80. The Blessed nine abides. 3rd spot in the junior category was taken by Darren Tobin (9) with 83. Great to see Darren back playing with the club again folks, some man to have for inter-club next season. In the Inter Scr cup Fergus O Donoghue’s (10) 82 gross, 72 nett saw him take the trophy by one shot from Thomas O Rourke (17), brilliant stuff Fergus one of the best rounds of the weekend. Just looking at Thomas’s card folks he had 2 birdies on the back 9 which is no mean feat given the tough conditions and the length of the course on the day. 3rd spot was claimed By Brian Sweeney (17) with a nett 74. Well done Brian. The Minor Scr cup was won by Joe Shannon (28) with a 98 gross, 70 nett. 2nd spot was claimed by Micheal Billington (23) who sees to be getting a few mentions in dispatches lately. Micheal has lopped 6 shots off his handicap so far this season, well done sir keep it going. In 3rd place we had Micheal Slattery (23) with a nett 73. Well done to all.
So Eddie Ingram’s course record remains in place and is now likely safe for “whats another year”, who sang that dreadful song?
