The Junior, Intermediate and Minor Scratch Cups were played over the weekend in somewhat testing conditions at times with wind, rain and a long course making scoring difficult. We had a nice spread of visitors taking part representing 12 different clubs from around Leinster.
Niall O’Connor (5) finished top of the pile in the Junior Scratch Cup with a score of 80 (+8). Getting off to a rather slow start dropping 7 shots in his first 4 holes he somewhat steadied the ship with a run of pars and a couple of birdies. In second place came Diarmuid McCarthy (6), who was left to rue a late treble bogie, coming up one shot shy of the winning score.
Declan Costello (16) had 2 shots to spare in winning the Intermediate Scratch Cup. An excellent score of 83 beating Pat Brady (10) to second. Declan had a very consistent day by recording 8 pars, 9 bogies and a solitary double.
The Minor Scratch cup will be spending the year in Edmondstown with Joe Murphy (20) who finished on the score of 99 beating previous champion Brendan Wheatley (19) on the countback.
