Only a week after shooting 42 points Eddie Ingram (9) shot a course record 71 (62 nett), one under par gross, to win the July Medal by 4 shots from Michael Cullen (13). It truly was a remarkable score considering it was the first time in our clubs history that par has been broken from the blue stakes at Blessington Lakes. This score coupled with last weeks score will see Eddie’s handicap reduce from 10 down to 5.5 this week. A personal best for Eddie.
Eddie was rarely off line all day and gave himself birdie chances on nearly every hole meaning most of his pars were mere tap ins. The par 3s played a pivotal part in building the score as he played them in 3 under par, chipping in on the 5th and holing from inside 6 feet on the 12th and 14th, all for birdies.
It was a day for low scoring all round with a remarkable 6 players returning scores in the 60’s.
The gross prize went to Niall O’Connor (5) on a score of 75 (+3). El Capitan, Tony McGinley (8), took the Class 1 honours with an impressive 68, Michael Cullen (13) takes Class 2 and finally it is great to see Conor Steed (28) in the prizes who took home the Class 3 prize with a great score of 67. Conor hit some great form over the weekend after shooting 39 points on Saturday in the open singles, which will see his handicap reduce by shots over the weekend alone.
Well done Eddie on writing yourself into our club history as the first man to break par from the blues and also setting a new course record.
